Midwestern University Librarians

Librarians can help faculty and staff:

  • perform searches for a lecture update, literature review, or evidence synthesis
  • teach search strategies and database platforms to help researchers find the latest research evidence
  • recommend citation management tools based on researcher work flow
  • provide training and resources for researchers using EndNote or Papers (ReadCube) citation managers
  • investigate the credibility of potential journals (predatory journal check)

Empowering Faculty Research: Librarian Expertise

Utilizing librarian expertise can facilitate your research projects and reach of your scholarship:

  • Expert Searches: Librarians create search strategies tailored to your research question to retrieve relevant and impactful research for your research project. Librarians can provide record files or bibliographies of search results. From keyword suggestions and literature review searches to systematic review searches, librarians develop searches for faculty.
  • Citations & Reference Management: Formatting headaches? Reference management software can allow you to change the citation style of your manuscript with the click of a button. Librarians can recommend and teach you to utilize reference management software including EndNote and Papers.
  • Copyright & Open Access: Librarians help you understand copyright restrictions and explore open access options to maintain your author rights and enable the accessibility of your work.
  • Predatory Journal Investigation: Librarians assess the quality and scholarly worth of a journal to help determine its merit in academic research.
  • Evidence Synthesis Guidance: Interested in reviewing the literature? Librarians provide guidance on selecting a review type, developing a research question and protocol, developing and translating a systematic search, exporting bibliographic records to software, and hand searching, citation searching, and grey literature searching
