Sign Up for ILLiad

  1. On the ILLiad homepage, click on "First Time Users" below the username/password text boxes.
  2. Read through the terms and conditions.
  3. Click "First Time Users Click Here" at the bottom of the page to agree to the terms and conditions.
  4. Fill out all required fields on the registration form.
    • Address and pickup location are used when physical materials are requested.

You can now make ILLiad requests.

What is ILLiad?

  • ILLiad is a service that allows Midwestern University students, residents, staff, and faculty to read articles not owned by the MWU library. By placing a request through ILLiad, you can access journal articles, book chapters, theses, and dissertations at no charge. Both print and electronic materials can be accessed via ILLiad.

When will I receive the materials I requested on ILLiad?

  • ​Article/photocopy requests: 4-10 business days (not counting weekends)
  • Book, book chapter, and thesis/dissertation requests: 7-14 business days (not counting weekends)

Is there a charge for library materials I request on ILLiad?

  • ILLiad materials are available free of charge to Midwestern University students, residents, faculty, and staff

How to Request Articles Using ILLiad

  1. Search for your article in a library database.
  2. Articles searched for in library databases will have a  Get It @ MWUbutton. Click this button.
  3. If the article is unavailable from the MWU library, a blue button labeled “Request from ILLiad” will appear. Click this button to begin the ILLiad request process.
  4. Login or create an account for ILLiad if not already done so.
  5. The request form will auto-populate with most of the required information. Be sure to indicate the date when the article is no longer needed.
  6. Check that the auto-populated information is correct.
  7. Click “Submit Request” at the bottom of the screen.
  8. The article will arrive as a viewable PDF in 4-10 business days, not counting weekends. A notice will be sent via email when it comes in.
  • To access articles delivered as a viewable PDF, log into your personal ILLiad account and click on “Electronically Received Articles” located in the side bar on the left side of the screen.
  • Articles are viewable and downloadable for 30 days after receiving them. If not downloaded within 30 days, they will disappear from the system and a new request will need to be made.

How to Create a Manual ILLiad Request

You can create a manual ILLiad request for articles that cannot be found in a database or journal that MWU subscribes to.

To create a manual request:

  1. Create an account or login into ILLiad.
  2. Locate the New Request menu located in the side bar on the left side of the screen.
  3. Click on the type of material you’d like to request.
  4. Fill out the information needed to retrieve the material. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk.
  5. When complete, click on “Submit Request” at the bottom of the screen to initiate the request.
  6. The journal article will arrive as a viewable PDF in 4-10 business days, not counting weekends. A notice will be sent via email when it comes in.
  • To access articles delivered as a viewable PDF, log into your personal ILLiad account and click on “Electronically Received Articles” located in the side bar on the left side of the screen.
  • Articles are viewable and downloadable within 30 days of receiving them. If not downloaded within 30 days, they will disappear from the system and a new request will need to be made.
