Faculty Teaching Resources: Off-Campus Access

Clinical or At-Home Access for Students

Most links to library resources, from e-books to videos, need to be configured for off-campus users before being posted in slides, syllabi, or Canvas. A link copy and pasted from your browser may prompt students to pay for access to resources!

A link with a proxy is needed if you want to:

  • post a database link in Canvas
  • link into a required e-book in your syllabus
  • post an article in Canvas

Why Does The Proxy Matter?

The library's online resources are only available to current members of the MWU community due to license agreements with vendors and publishers.

The library proxy prompts users to enter their MWU credentials and verify their affiliation when they are off-campus. It provides seamless access to MWU subscriptions while at clinical sites or at-home.

Acquire Stable Links for Your Classroom Material

Option 1: Link to a page on the library website

Provide a link to a library webpage with the resource you want students to use. For example, you can post a link to the library's Anatomy & Physiology page in Canvas and direct students to access Grant's Dissection Videos.

Option 2: Completing a proxy link request form

Fill out the proxy link request form, and librarians will create and send you a stable link for use in syllabi, slides, Canvas, etc.

Option 3: Create and locate proxied links independently

Create links:

Navigate to an article, book, database, video, etc. from the library. Insert the proxy URL in front of the browser URL.

Library proxy:  https://mwu.idm.oclc.org/login?url=

Example resource URL:  https://aclandanatomy.com/index.aspx

Link with proxy:  https://mwu.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://aclandanatomy.com/index.aspx

The librarians recommend that you send the links to us for verification or test the link yourself while off-campus.

Locate links:

Databases through the vendor EBSCO provide permalinks for e-books and articles. This includes Medline, PsycInfo, CINHAL, etc. You can copy and paste these permalinks into your materials.
