Using EndNote 21 Desktop: EN 21 Set Up

Instructions for setting up libraries, CWYW and sharing libraries using EndNote 21 by Clarivate.

First Time Set Up

Getting EndNote 21

EN 21 can be downloaded on any MWU owned computer. Contact ITS at (623) 232-4357 or support@midwestern.edu and request EndNote 21

ITS installs the program remotely. Check your computer after 24 hours to see if the program has been installed

First Time Set Up

If you do not have an EndNote library created by a previous version

  1. Open EndNote 21
  2. Select Create a new library
  3. The default location is the Documents folder on your local C: drive. The default name is MyEndNoteLibrary.enl
  4. Select Save to keep your library in your Documents folder

Though you can create multiple libraries, you can only sync and share one library. Use Groups to organize your references into categories within your library

Already have an EndNote library?

  1. EndNote will open the last .enl file used
  2. Select File, then click Open existing library
  3. Existing libraries automatically convert to new versions of EndNote
